If Springfield, Illinois seventh graders don’t look beyond their homework for a legal perspective, they’ll believe Americans have to register their guns to satisfy the Second Amendment. Many states and city regulations do require such a registration, but that flies in the face of the wording of the Amendment, which says ” … the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

Jeb Bush says anyone opposing Common Core is “embracing the status quo.” Actually, there are many who want to go back to an educational system that works. I guess the former Florida governor isn’t aware that when adults attempt a final exam originally intended for eighth graders in 1895, a good number fail. Sure, we’d have to add over a century of history and scientific discoveries to the time tested curriculum, but kids were actually learning better before government started tinkering with a successful system. Bush, you may recall, earned the ire of conservatives when he refused to take action to prevent the death of Terri Schiavo in 2005.
Zero-Tolerance succumbed to reason Thursday evening in Virginia Beach. It all stems from an incident at Bayside Middle School when Adrionna Harris possibly saved the life of a friend who was cutting his arm. She promptly threw his razor blade away into the trash. Adrionna’s mistake was telling a guidance counselor about the incident, leading to her suspension with a recommendation for expulsion. Ironically, the slogan of the Virginian Beach School System is “Ahead of the Curve.” But this time officials were behind the curve. That kind of muddled reasoning suggests a frightening possibility. Do you think the administrators might have been educated under Common Core themselves?
Perhaps if Mike Adams had remained an atheist, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington would not have refused the associate professor a promotion. After Adams became a Christian, University leadership objected to his nationally distributed opinion columns. As it turns out, Thursday’s jury decision was a lessen in tolerance for UNCW officials.
Have you ever hear of Weiss Russell? He was convicted of spying for Al-Qaeda in 2008 under the name of Mohammad Weiss Rasool. His victim was the FBI. But the Obama Administration is treating him more charitably than if he had made a joke in front of a TSA officer. Weiss is now a financial management analyst for the IRS.
Not many rapists have a Roman numeral IV after their last name, but Robert H. Richards the Fourth does. Delaware authorities are saying little if anything about a new lawsuit that accuses him of sexually abusing his toddler son. That would be bad business for the Du Pont Chemical Company, Delaware’s largest private employer.
The 10-year sentence follows Trudeau’s recent conviction for criminal contempt of court. Trudeau had said in an infomercial that you could lose weight without diet and exercise, yet the book he was promoting recommended both. Many would consider the punishment too severe for the offense. Keep in mind that Trudeau was a well known challenger of the medical establishment. I wonder if the court would have thrown the book at him for a parking ticket?
