But now officials have passed an ordinance redefining the median as part of the roadway, making it illegal to protest there. They claim it is for safety reasons, but evidence suggests the real motive is to chill free speech.

It makes you wonder. Why does the US Department of Agriculture need body armor? It makes sense for the Army and Marines, but why this agency that seems so innocuous? The USDA has just put in an acquisition request for “ballistic vests, compliant with NIJ 0101.06 for Level IIIA Ballistic Resistance of body armor.” We’ve come a long way since county agent Hank Kimball used to stop by the Douglas farm on TV’s “Green Acres” in the 1960s.
