Arthritis is a common problem in the United States, with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reporting more than 52 million adults and nearly 300,000 children living with some form of the disease. In fact, it is the number one cause of disability in the U.S., limiting work ability for approximately one-third of adults who have it. According to the Arthritis Foundation, arthritis costs Americans $156 billion every year in medical expenses and lost wages alone.

Many people who live with the disease take arthritis medications to help alleviate the pain and avoid missing work or other obligations. Big pharma, of course, is happy to oblige, having produced a wide variety of chemical cocktails that are promoted as remedies to arthritic pain and inflammation.

One type of medication in particular – TNF alpha blockers – are revered as wonder drugs for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Not surprisingly, however, these medications also carry serious risks that can lead to negative side effects, hospitalization and even death.
