It wasn’t long ago that Mark Driscoll aspired to the title of “author of a ‘New York Times’ Best Seller.” Now the Pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle has to content himself with news coverage in the “Times” or whatever media outlet decides to cover his sad story. Former associates at the megachurch are accusing him of creating an “abusive environment.”

The $210 thousand payment worked. “Real Marriage,” written by Mark Driscoll, of Mars Hill Church In Seattle, stayed on the “New York Times” best-seller list for a week. The payment went to a marketing firm called RealSource Inc. The firm used a network of book buyers, intended to influence placement on the list. A Mars Hill spokesman, who emphasizes the pastor’s generosity, says Driscoll’s books have resulted in more than $200 thousand for the church.
